What Is This Webpage About?

This webpage helps you with pronunciation in English. We want you to speak clearly, so other people can understand you. That is the most important thing.

You do not need to sound like a person from the United States or from England. Your accent is part of who you are. But you need to say words clearly, because in English some sounds change the meaning of a word.

For example:

  • ship and sheep are not the same word.
  • berry and very are not the same word.
  • chip and ship are not the same word.

In this webpage, you will learn the sounds that change the meaning of a word in English. You will:

👂 Listen 🗣 Repeat 📖 Read aloud 🎮 Practise with games

Step by step, your voice will become clearer.

Remember: your goal is not to sound perfect. Your goal is to speak so they understand you!

Are you a teacher?

Welcome! This webpage was designed as a ready-to-use resource for seventh-grade English teachers in Uruguayan public secondary education. It offers structured activities to help students develop orthoepic competence — that is, the ability to produce intelligible pronunciation from written forms when reading aloud.

The For Teachers section provides a pedagogical orientation, a diagnostic activity to identify which sound contrasts your students find most difficult, and guidance for adapting and sequencing materials within CREA. All activities are aligned with the intelligibility principle and target the six sound contrasts that are particularly challenging for Spanish-speaking learners.
